  1. India successfully landed its Chandrayaan-3 mission on the lunar surface on 23 August, 2023, making it the fourth country after the United States, Russia, and China to land an operational spacecraft on the moon and the first to reach the south polar region of the moon. 
  2. The State Bank of India (SBI) has reappointed Ketan Shivji Vikamsey and Mrugank Madhukar Paranjape to its board and has added Rajesh Kumar Dubey and Dharmendra Singh Shekhawat as Directors. They were appointed for a period of 3 years with effect from 26 June, 2023 to 25 June, 2026.
  3. Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has been named the ‘national icon’ of the Election Commission (EC) to spread awareness regarding the need for greater voter participation in the electoral process.
  4. In a remarkable feat of intellectual prowess, Raja Anirudh Sriram, a fourth-standard student hailing from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, has clinched a silver medal at the prestigious Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC).  
  5. Suryakumar Yadav retained the top spot in ICC Men’s T20 International player rankings, released on 17 August, 2023.
  6. In a significant move, India and the ASEAN countries have come to an agreement to reevaluate their existing free trade pact for goods which aims to address the existing trade imbalances and disparities between the two parties. The announcement was made by the Commerce Ministry, indicating the commitment to enhance bilateral trade relations.
  7. The state of Kerala introduced its first AI school situated at Santhigiri Vidyabhavan in Thiruvananthapuram and it was inaugurated by the former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on 22 August, 2023.
  8. Canara Bank, a leading player in the Indian banking sector, launched the UPI interoperable digital rupee mobile application, Canara Digital Rupee app, as a part of the Reserve Bank of India’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot project. This move places Canara Bank at the forefront of innovation, becoming the first bank across both the public and commercial sectors to offer this pioneering feature.
  9. Kannauj has become the first district in Uttar Pradesh to introduce an e-office system at its collectorate.
  10. In a strategic move to bolster its digital business operations, Viacom18 has appointed Kiran Mani, Google’s General Manager and MD for Android and Google Play for APAC region, as the new Chief Executive Officer.
  11. Delhi witnessed a historical feat on Independence Day, as a hundred women riders steered through the streets of Delhi NCR on their bikes to commemorate the uninhibited passion of women of all shapes, sizes, and walks of life.
  12. In a significant stride towards resolving the water crisis gripping Chennai city, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M K Stalin, has laid the foundation stone for what is set to become South East Asia’s largest water desalination project.

  15. India’s first drone common testing centre under the Defence Testing Infrastructure (DTI) scheme will be established at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
  16. Renowned Indian-American mathematician and statistician, Calyampudi Radhakrishna Rao (CR Rao)  passed away on 23 August 2023, at New York, USA at the age of 103.
